An Introduction to Civil Lawsuits

Civil litigation deals with disputes between two private parties and/or an organization, whereby the victim is claiming to be entitled to some form of remedy or compensation.  It covers many types of disputes including the areas of personal injury, professional negligence, unfair dismissal, vehicular accidents, slip and falls, and  consumer rights, amongst many others.  In covering such a wide array of issues, this area of the law is quite vast and very complicated. As such, there are actually many types of legal experts that specialize in sub-areas of litigation law.

To pursue a civil litigation case, first you must contact a solicitor with enough time to ensure that he/she is able to get file your claim before the limitation period expires. Limitation periods vary, but if you would like to decipher your relevant limitation period, you can check out The Limitations Act of 1980. A good rule of thumb to protect your limitation period is to contact a solicitor as soon as possible after realizing that you have a potential claim to make. If your claim is not issued in court prior to the expiration of your limitation date, there will be no claim to pursue as the expiration will constitute a complete bar to any civil litigation suit.

Another very important step in making a claim is gathering and producing to your solicitor all documentation proving your claim. Many people suffer from harm caused by another party, but are unable to prove it, and therefore barred from remedy.
